Edinburgh Castle
Located in Old Town, this castle is also home to the Edinburgh Tattoo. It is located at one of the highest points in the city and has been in continuous use for 1,000 years. Dominating the city skyline, it is one of the most popular visitor attractions in all of Scotland. The castle includes several cafés and restaurants and an array of historical displays. An educational centre in the Queen Anne Building includes events featuring re-enactors in costume.
The Royal Yacht Britannia
Having been decommissioned from royal use, it has been voted one of the city’s best attractions. The Britannia offers visitors the chance to tour the royal apartments as well as see an array of the gifts offered to the royals by dignitaries from around the world. Originally ordered in 1952, the yacht has travelled more than one-million nautical miles around the world. It is located at the Ocean Terminal, Leith in Edinburgh.
Old and New Towns of Edinburgh
Edinburgh offers a very unique contrast through both the Old Town and New Town, which each containing a variety of historically significant buildings. The Old Town is renown for its medieval architecture and fortresses, while the New Town includes more modernized development from the 18th century to modern day.
